Hey Andrew.
Here's my suggestion.

First of all, it's important to know that free will comes with certain limitations. Even though freeways will provide you with some valuable insight, you will need paid ways to get deep analysis.

Here are some ways to research keywords and analyze competitors' keyword usage as well.
The first and most preferred tool is Google Keyword Planner, which provides search volume estimates, competition levels (low, medium, and high), and related keyword suggestions. Another popular tool is
Ubersuggest, too, offers limited searches per day but provides search volume, competition level, and related keyword suggestions.

For competitor analysis, try the SEOquake Chrome Extension, which provides basic SEO metrics directly on SERPs and also highlights your competitors' estimated traffic and organic keywords.

As your need for deep analysis increases, it is advisable to go with paid tools. Paid tools will improve your search results, and you can do better keyword research and competitor analysis. Till then, these free tools can suffice for basic needs.

Hello,

For free keyword research and competitor analysis, you can leverage tools like Google Keyword Planner, Ubersuggest, and AnswerThePublic. These tools provide insights into search volumes, related keywords, and competition. Additionally, Google Trends is valuable for identifying keyword popularity over time. To analyze competitors, manually review their websites, content, and meta tags. Keep an eye on their high-ranking keywords.

Remember, while free tools offer valuable insights, more advanced features often come with paid tools. However, a combination of free tools and manual analysis can still provide a solid foundation for your research. Good luck with your keyword and competitor analysis!

Researching keywords and analyzing competitors is crucial for SEO success, and the good news is that you can do it without spending a dime. Here’s a step-by-step guide to researching keywords and analyzing competitors for free:

1. Use Google’s Free Tools
a. Google Keyword Planner
Google Keyword Planner is designed for Google Ads but can be useful for SEO research as well. It provides keyword ideas, search volume data, and competition levels.

How to Use:
Sign in to Google Ads (you don’t need to run an ad campaign).
Go to the “Keyword Planner” tool under “Tools & Settings.”
Select “Discover new keywords” or “Get search volume and forecasts.”
Enter seed keywords related to your niche.
Analyze the keyword ideas, focusing on those with a good balance of search volume and competition.
b. Google Search Console
Google Search Console provides data on the queries that bring traffic to your site. This can help you identify which keywords you’re already ranking for and find opportunities for improvement.

How to Use:
Set up your website on Google Search Console.
Navigate to the “Performance” tab.
Analyze the queries, impressions, clicks, and average position.
Look for keywords with high impressions but low click-through rates (CTR) as opportunities to optimize.
c. Google Trends
Google Trends lets you see the popularity of search queries over time. It’s great for discovering trending topics and seasonal keywords.

How to Use:
Go to Google Trends.
Enter a keyword or topic.
Explore the interest over time, related queries, and regional interest.
Compare different keywords to see which one has more search interest.
2. Use Free SEO Tools
a. Ubersuggest
Ubersuggest offers a comprehensive suite of SEO tools, including keyword research, site audits, and competitor analysis. The free version provides a good amount of data.

How to Use:

Analyze the keyword suggestions, search volume, and SEO difficulty.
Use the “Traffic Analyzer” to view your competitors’ top pages and keywords.
b. AnswerThePublic

How to Use:
Go to AnswerThePublic.
Enter a keyword related to your niche.
Analyze the visual data of questions and phrases users search for.
Export the data for use in your content strategy.
c. Ahrefs Webmaster Tools

Sign up for Ahrefs Webmaster Tools.
Add your website and verify ownership.
Use the “Organic Keywords” section to see the keywords your site ranks for.
Use the “Site Explorer” to analyze competitors’ backlinks and top pages.
3. Analyze Competitors’ Keywords
a. Spy on Competitors with Google Search
You can manually spy on your competitors’ keywords by simply using Google.

How to Use:
Enter a keyword you want to rank for in Google.
Analyze the top-ranking pages—these are your competitors.
Look at the meta titles, descriptions, and content of these pages to identify target keywords.
Right-click on the page and select “View Page Source” to find keywords in the HTML code, such as in the “title” and “meta description” tags.
b. SEOquake Browser Extension
SEOquake is a free browser extension that provides quick SEO metrics for any website.

How to Use:
Install the SEOquake extension on your browser.
Visit a competitor’s website.
Click on the SEOquake icon to see key metrics like keyword density, backlinks, and on-page SEO elements.
Use the “Keyword Density” tool to find which keywords are most frequently used on the page.
c. SimilarWeb
SimilarWeb offers insights into your competitors’ traffic sources, top keywords, and referral sites.

How to Use:
Visit SimilarWeb and enter your competitor’s website.
Analyze the traffic sources, including top search keywords and referring sites.
Use this data to refine your own keyword strategy and content plan.
4. Use Social Media for Keyword Insights
a. Twitter and Reddit
Social media platforms are goldmines for discovering trending topics and keywords.

How to Use:
Search for your niche on Twitter or Reddit.
Identify popular hashtags, topics, and discussions.
Extract keywords and phrases that are frequently mentioned and align with your content.
5. Leverage Online Communities and Forums
Quora and Niche Forums:
Search for questions and discussions related to your industry.
Identify the language and keywords people are using to describe their problems and needs.

Researching keywords and analyzing competitors doesn’t have to break the bank. By leveraging these free tools and strategies, you can uncover valuable keywords, understand your competition, and create content that resonates with your target audience. Consistency in applying these methods will help you stay ahead in the competitive digital landscape, driving more traffic and boosting your sales over time.
