A kw is ranked pretty well in the SERP's it basically varies from 7-10 top positions.
The search volume is in thousands. But how come the kw actually gets only a handful of traffic (200-360 or so) per month. Not even per day. Its showing in the first page then why so much difference?

Being in the first page doesn't matters much. But what matters is the position in the SERP's.
Do you know that most of the traffic a kw gets its basically get consumed in the first 5 positions only. The 1st one gets around 50%, the second one gets 20-25% and so on. Even these numbers are not exact but one thing I can assure you that the traffic distribution numbers are more than these not less, in the higher positions.
A 8 or 10th position can get only 1% or maybe even less. Your kw must have a very high search volume unless you won't won't be even getting 100.

Just think about it in a simple way. That what you do when you search for any term in Google. What links in the SERP's do you actually click.
'White knight' explained it quite good.

I would say that traffic in the 10th position is less than 1%. And in many cases it just zero or close to zero.

what is the search volume of the keyword which is getting 200-360 users per month?
And as your keyword is ranking on 7-10th position, you should be aware that almost 50-70% of traffic goes to 1st place keyword. so you can't expect more at 7th pos

In this case, we can't even assume that its in 7th position. We just have to assume for the worst that its in 10th position.
And I think the search volume is in millions. As, otherwise OP wouldn't be getting this much traffic.

Optimize your site, maybe people are not getting what they are looking.

If the site content or any on-page factor hasn't been optimized or properly done. Then the concerned site will not be even ranking in the first page.

Agreed with vk_lord here.
I don't think low optimization is the issue here.

Top rankings in search results will not guarantee for target traffic and conversions because most of the people today are more on detailed, they want to satisfy their intent by searching the best information in the web then they will decide which website to hire for or buy.
