The fact is Drupal is very hard to manage for a newbie. Although there are plenty of differences between Drupal 7 & 8.
You can contact your app developer about this problem and discuss with them to resolve it. And here is a theory of mine. Exactly how much apps and customized widgets will be your site using?
If not many then you can easily install Drupal in a sub-directory of yours and let the widgets play from there.
Now, atlast it comes to the type of your site. I will personally suggest that go for Drupal if your site is big and has a enterprise like framework. Because Drupal is really hard for small sites with less framework.
