Many webmasters have different opinions about this. I am just telling what I had done when I was a newbie. I did forum marketing very seriously, linking my content to the topics (related ones) helped me a lot. Along with I also answered questions in yahoo answers and quora, which help me a lot to outreach to my correct audience. And the most fun part of these methods that you can do them for free.
