Its been over a year that I am managing our support forum. From what I have learned that make the forum for people makes it more easier to manage and grow. We ask the audience what they want from us. And we drive the forum according to them. Since then our forum has grown rapidly.
Its 100% true. If people don't feel comfortable in your forum then won't stay in it.
You have to make it people's forum. Because you said it yourself its a support forum right?
Its growing rapidly soon we will have to think about a different hosting package.

You most certainly can. But don't bombard them with product just refer them every now and then.
