Are the micro niche sites gone extinct? I have found a niche where I could start one. So, I am looking for any kind of suggestions.

No they are not extinct just there SEO has become tough. Otherwise they are fine. If you already had found a good one then I will suggest you to go for it. Just make sure that you are able to post atleast 30 contents which are unique and also useful to your niche.
