Too many of them can hurt. You never know which has a bad history. And also too many redirects is signal that the domain owner is doing something fishy.

What do you wanna buy a lot of domains and redirect them?
If the domains has no value then they will not help at all.
Rather then that doing so you will be hurting your own site that's for sure.
