Super Micro sites still works for affiliates?

Super micro silo structured sites still work when it comes to affiliate marketing? I mean when there are many big sites in every niche who have all types of categories.

Super targeted ones always have an advantage that's for sure.

Google is now scaling out all of these sites. They are focusing more and more on branded sites (or large sites et be exact). So, I thought that what of these small sites are lost cause.
