How do people generate leads through forums? And not to mention get tremendous amount of free traffic.

If you genuinely help people through your posts then they will click back through your signature links. You have to contribute to the community don't just think to promote, think to help.

The term 'Forum Marketing' is a relative term. Actually you can't do anything about marketing there. You just have to engage people in the correct way and they will do the rest.

In my opinion forum is all about sharing what you know and building contacts out of it.
Sure, you can generate leads and traffic but they are not the primary reason. Main objective is to gain trust and make a name.

But usually try to do direct marketing through it and end up spamming which means getting banned from the forum.
