How do you identify the original content

The fact is that you can't tell which is original content. You just tell whether any content is duplicate or not.

Its entirely true. These tools which are mentioned earlier in this thread only can identify whether the content is copied or not.

If 2 sites have duplicate content, how can I identify which one is original?

You can find the duplicate content with the help of plagiraism checker. Atleast you should try it once...
