On-page optimization is the terms that you do to optimize on your live webpages. There are several properties of a good on-page optimized page. Some of them are::
1. Webpages providing unique content to the visitors which will be easily understandable. Use of images, infographs, videos good vocabulary are some examples of it.
2. Good meta-descriptions, head tags which makes the webpage easily understandable to the search visitors.
3. Webpages easily accessible to the search engine bots.
4. Use of relevant keywords in body, content & head.
5. Easily sharable to the social networks.
6. Good Feed.
7. Images and infographs all well optimized so that the webpage can be viewed from multiple devices. This can be done by adding alt text to the images and infographs.

That is a list for a basic overview, but there is definitely more to it than just that list. The bulk of the work is in the underlying code of the pages. Such as valid code underneath...

Those are all valid answers. However, you should always start with an on-page checklist. These are any factors within your control, and are accessible with front end CMS access.

This includes:
keywords
meta descriptions (less than 160 characters)
title tags (less than 70 characters)
on page content
alt tags for images on site
canonical tags for URL's
Proper URL structure - nothing overly long and complex
good pagination - if you have a blog make sure posts don't all render as one page. if you prefer the scroll look, limit the number of post thumbnails to 8-10 per page.
XML sitemap
proper interlinking
bold or emphasis tags <strong></strong>
privacy policy/about/copyright inclusion
google analytics code in header not footer
usability testing
elimination of 404 errors
proper configuration of robots.txt file to deindex sensitive admin pages
proper use of header <h1><h2> tags
keyword density checking
proper code rendering - no flash (or will exclude iPhones etc)
no sloppy code -- also known as code bloat which slows pages down.
competitive analysis.

There are other items, but if you do all of these things, you will set yourself up for success eventually.

Hello Pk357
You have said quite good the on-page optimization factors and also they are very correct. But i don't understand that analytics code can be placed wherever anyone wants so, how does it effect SEO if it is placed in footer ?

Because the code loads in a sequential order. In other words the script is read from header to footer. You want the GA snippet to get read right away so you can log every single visit to your site. If the code is placed in the footer or a sidebar widget and your page takes a long time to load due to heavy code, rich text/images, people can close the browser and bounce before the code even renders.

That means you haven't even logged the visit. If this happens a lot, you think you have less visitors than the actual number and also, your bounce rate is much lower than actual number. So you are getting improper data each month. Google analytics data is used to optimize your site, but if you have incomplete data or incorrect data you won't do a very good job of making on-page optimization changes. In this case, long load time is negatively affecting your SEO, but you won't know it because your bounce rate is lower in GA.

It is an easy thing to remember so always do it.

Also, use the header.php because php includes, so you won't have to tag every single page.

Thanks pk357, you have made a very good explanation to my analytics query.

SEO considers how search engines work, what people search for, the actual search terms or keywords typed into search engines and which search engines are preferred by their targeted audience. This is when you needed to apply on-page optimization to search your business in search engine.
