Our forum was getting plenty of organic traffic. But after the recent Google updates our organic traffic has fell significantly but still the overall traffic rate per day is almost the same. Mostly they are direct traffic. Is this a good sign?

Your organic traffic has fell so its not a good sign for your site's SEO ofcourse.
But you said your direct traffic is kicking so its good sign for your forum. Most of the big forums doesn't get their traffic from search engines I mean they gets but its less than the direct traffic. People comes in directly if its a well known forum. So, yeah its a good sign for your forum.

I think this is a good sign because it's organic traffic
Now, if you focus more on SEO with right keywords, you'll bring more traffic

Don't make this wrong statements. Direct traffic are not organic traffic.
And yeah its a good sign that you are getting direct traffic. As just like Batman said it means your forum is getting popular in your niche audience.
