The server is a back up of nearly 80 sites. The thing is it isn't showing any errors or such. But its just slow. I have tried restarting it and also turned off/on nothing seems to be working.
It worked fine up until a week ago. It became slow.

Sounds like a job of sysadmin.
Anyway, are you using any panel? Then check the log first what is consuming what?

I am using cpanel. Checked all the awstats and logs. Nothing out of the ordinary.

If everything is looking good at your end then you might wanna contact your hosting provider. Because after all it is a VPS hosting. Load of other sites can also be the cause for the machine to lag.

That can be the probable case because the service provider is Contabo after all.

I talked to them. It was due to an adjacent server. They have removed it now. I told them this shall not occur any further. Their response was not quite convincing to say the least. Anyway, the problem got sorted for now.
