I am interested in deploying a server for my backup.
The thing is the backup file will not be the only item it will store. We will also do testing time to time. In terms of CPU performance and other what not's both of them looks great. But I don't know how they will perform if we have to increase the server's properties.
Everything has to be considered here price, performance, support, up time and also not to mention quality of the product itself.

In terms of scalability DO hands down.
Vultr is good. But only if you know what we will require after 6 months or so. Had seen a minor problem with them also that their support isn't much of any use when it comes to this kind of suggestions. You are running a Cloud Platform after all. Your support should be able to answer these type of questions. At any point of time. But they are not so much good in that area. And moreover they just refer a bunch of new offers. If you are a newbie like I was 4 years back then you will get confused instantly. And when running these small servers as a bunch gets you confused then bad things are on your way. Back then I got help from a friend who actually knew these pretty well.

Vultr is good for those who knows what their need will be the future or have estimate. The earlier statement is absolutely correct.
Vultr is basically purpose or function driven so it is designed that way. Now it also has it's merits and demerits when comparing to services like DO. DO can be quite expensive compared to Vultr. Since digitalocean is giving you a range of features. While Vultr on the other hand is quite cost effeteive.
