Due to the recent ups and downs of Google of SERP's. Many people who owns small businesses have asked me this that they should or should not buy links from high authority sites. Its not that they do not know about the penalties of buying or selling links, they are just worried about their conversions which is very low lately.
So, to those online marketers I say that buying links will only make the things worse now. Google penguin is a part of Google's core algorithm now which can detect any kind of unusual link linking to your site. If you want to invest then better spend the money on creating great content by hiring good content writers and if you want quick conversions then just go for Google Adwords or facebook sponsored ads.
