Can no-follow links help forum sites? I mean that not in the case of rankings but else.

Ofcourse they can help. Think about other forum sites when you do forum marketing the links that they provide from signatures are basically no-follow but they still help to create brand awareness.

For visibility and traffic yes it does help it really is relevant nowadays considering the fact that most website are nofollow links.
