On the traffic side I would separate two questions before changing anything: did the update move our rankings, or did the SERP layout change around us?
What has been useful here:
1) Compare clicks and impressions per query group in Search Console instead of site-wide. On the reference pages I work on, informational queries lost clicks while comparison and definition pages held steady. Positions were flat, so the loss was in the layout above the fold, not in quality.
2) Check position and CTR separately. Flat positions with falling CTR means rewriting the page will not help; that is a SERP feature problem. Falling positions with stable CTR is the one worth real work.
3) Consolidate overlapping thin pages before publishing anything new. Two half-good pages on the same topic compete with each other and both tend to slide during volatility.
4) For new traffic sources, a newsletter plus two or three niche communities has been far steadier for us than social. Slower to build, but it does not reset with every core update.
One practical note: wait two to three weeks after a confirmed update finishes rolling out before making structural changes. A lot of the early recoveries people report are just the rollout settling, and reacting mid-rollout makes it impossible to tell what your own fixes actually did.
