It doesn't get effected. It gets effected by the ripple effects. When some niche takes a hit. Its traffic scatters and that more or less effects every niche's SERP's as well as ad campaigns. And since Google is now hell bent is pleasing their share holders these things will happen often.
Coming to facebook ads. I think that its a horrible idea. Facebook traffic is great for low budget exposure and brand awareness. Otherwise they are not good at anything. In my opinion their traffic more or less acts like world's biggest bot traffic.
