How am I supposed to fight against hidden backlinks that originate from different sources? The thing is unless I see the code of the host site it is quite impossible to identify the links.

Then you should disavow them at the root level. It will be much easier. Some would suggest that Google will probably ignore all quality links but hidden links can be tricky so its better to get rid of them.
Its better to disavow them now rather than dealing with a manual action penalty later for months.

Don't bother with these kind of unwanted links because Google already knew this kind of scams it will be automatically ignored and will not affect your website's rankings.
