Currently, we are considering selling ads directly. So, here is my query. How should I know how much to charge the advertisers?

Here is a thing that I consider everytime. If you have an adsense account then it will be easy.
Go to your adsense account and see how much eCPM are they offering for your site. Consider about last 12 months of that amount. Create an average for it.
Say adsense is giving you an average eCPM of $0.50 then just increase the 20% of the amount and feed the advertisers.

If you are that large then you might already have the idea that how much you should charge. Check your fellow competitors, how much they are charging.

Not too much high not too much low. Try an average rate first by seeing your adsense cpc and cpm.

I guess I have to try first. Give it a go and see what it turns out.

Always charge higher!
Generally, Clients have the mindset that if the SEM/PPC fee is comparatively bigger at a company then it is better than the other companies.
If you will charge less then the chances are that you will be considered unprofessional and new comer. So the choice is up to you!
