When my site was launched, it had 16 urls indexed in google as said by webmasters tool, but now its saying that it has 9 urls indexed, i don't understand what went wrong.

Maybe Google have found duplicated content or very poor quality content on those links so they might de-indexed them. But don't worry if your content is unique and good they will be indexed just it will take time.

I agree with 'batman', if you are not sure that you are using duplicated content or not then check them, and for your quality ask any expert of your niche.

Update your sitemap, one of the prime reason might be your website is crawling on regular basis.

They can be for many reasons, re-index with GSC to see what branding error.

There can be many reasons, in most cases content become issue; due to duplicate content URL often gets no index.

If your page doesn't provide unique, valuable content that Google wants to show to users, you will have a hard time getting it indexed (and shouldn't be surprised)
