Not evidently in the content body but yeah its a priority alright.
It can be in the columns and also sidebars. But it has to be natural you can't just put up a link without knowing what you are doing so we prefer to tell the newbies that they should put links in content.

Hi nehal91,
According to my knowledge it is preferable to put link in content but you should put in a away that it looks like a natural because if it look unnatural it will leads to bad user experience.

Contextual Linking is the best way to get quality links which have good trust flow.
