Ofcourse they exist. Its one of the old school method. If you are so concerned in getting sales then why don;t you just sale your ebook!!

If you want to get sales from your ebook which is free then remember people must like your ebook very much. I once did it and it worked out pretty much good for me. I presented an tutorial along side with a video which was rare in my niche.
