Does AI content actually rank on Google, or is that a myth?

Been digging into this question a lot lately since half my clients ask it and the other half assume the answer is "no" by default.

Google doesn't care who (or what) wrote the first draft. It cares whether the finished page is genuinely useful, accurate, and matches what the searcher actually wanted. AI-assisted articles rank all the time — the ones that don't rank usually fail for the same reasons a bad human-written article fails: no original insight, unverified claims, keyword-stuffed structure, zero real experience behind the words.

A few signals that seem to separate the winners from the pages that never move:

• Original value — does it say something you can't find on 50 other pages, or is it just a reshuffle of existing content?
  
• Fact-checking — AI will confidently state things that are wrong. If nobody verifies stats/dates/claims before publishing, that's where trust (and rankings) fall apart.
  
• Search intent match — answering the actual question someone typed, not just hitting a keyword density target.
  
• Some human fingerprint — real examples, first-hand experience, expert commentary. This is basically the EEAT stuff Google's been pushing for years, just applied to AI workflows now.
  

The pattern I keep seeing with sites that get penalized (or just quietly ignored) isn't "they used AI" — it's "they published volume without review." Big difference.
Curious what others here are seeing — anyone tracking ranking performance on AI-assisted content vs. fully manual, with real data? Would love to compare notes.
