I have seen many articles of about 5000 words long. They surely gets peoples much attention. So, the articles having larger word count ranks better?

As long as they serve their own purpose they should do alright. Words doesn't count in time of getting ranked.

Word count has nothing to do with the SERP's.

Its not the quantity of the content matters but the uniqueness and benefits it will give to the target users will do because it can create branding and reputation.
