I also have the same questions. I want to rank 3 to 4 words keywords for my website and how I can rank it the easy way and which steps I should follow.

If you are targeting long tail keywords then just stick to the keyword itself.
Put relevant keywords in your tags and along with them put some adjacent relative kw's.

repeat a few times, but not too much

Also try linking (internally) to those pages as much as relevantly possible. 3-4 kw's isn't a big of deal.
