If I am writing about a product then which is the best way to get sales through content marketing? Should I write an in-depth article that will naturally highlight the good qualities of the product or just straight to the point honest review.

If you have a well established site and you are promoting any affiliate product in it. Then, a quick to the point review can do the work. But if you are running any project just solely to get sales then it may need more insightful content to get sale.

If you want to make a sale solely depended on one article then its better be insightful. To the point articles are not going to work in it.

I guess try to go directly to the point we all know that a lot of people are not into long description when we talk about product content.
