If a site has a low traffic compared to its competitors then how should it get conversions? Will it be possible??

The quality of traffic is that always better the quantity does not. If you have targeted loyal audience then they are going to buy your product and/or services no matter what happens.

Loyal audience count not the number. You mat have tons of traffic from social media and search engines but if they don't stay on your site and have no such engagement rate then you are not going to have conversions anyway.
I have came across many sites which may not have 5000 visitors per day but they are making ton of conversions because their site's are engaging and so the visitors trust them and buy from them eventually.
