It is ranking factor for Google. Its well known. But it doesn't impact your site if it has got no money transaction elements or money related element. If your site is a simple blog then I will suggest don't do it as it will only slow up your loading speed which can impact your rankings negatively.

It doesn't help much in improving the ranking of your website, but helps to secure your website more in search engines.

Google has announced that going HTTPS — adding a SSL 2048-bit key certificate on your site — will give you a minor ranking boost.

It helps in security purposes means using https before any site it shows the secured connection. It has no link with ranking.
