How much time does it take to crawl a site the very first time by the search engines? If the sitemaps are already been submitted via the webmasters tools. And how to fasten the process?

There is no fix time to crawl. But if some links are already pointing towards the site then it makes it easy. But if you don't have links then you must post the updates of your site in the social media channels it fastens the process a bit.

Two tools I can recommend here are Pingdom and Mon.itor.us, Mind your page load time,Adjust the crawl speed via Google Webmaster tools,Add a sitemap (though it’s up for a debate whether the sitemap can help with crawling and indexing issues, many webmasters report they have seen increased crawl rate after adding it).

Google loves to crawl fresh content. So as frequently your website gets updated with fresh content so there are more chances to get crawled your website. You can submit your website updated pages to social media sites like Facebook, Google Plus etc.
