Coming to your query. You must have a basic knowledge on programming to learn API effectively.
If you are willing to give programming languages a try then I will strongly suggest that you try Python. Its easy and super fun to use for a newbie.

Can I ask what exactly are you trying to do? If I knew what kind of project are you working on then maybe I could help.
Some of the API needs to updated and I have to do them manually. So, I need experience in coding.
