When it comes to blog or general sites. Webmasters always try to build links to each and every page of a website. As it increases the overall domain authority of it. So, my query is that in the case of forums does this remain same or we should just focus on building links to the root directory of our board?

I heard about this in the prior time also. Webmasters have a misconception about building links only to the root directory of the forums and not to the whole domain. But I assure you that this is not right at all. Building links to your most favored posts and also to the sub-forums will only increase your authority and in turn it will increase your search traffic.
Along with root directory build links to sub-forums that's good. But I just want to add one thing links can be good for any part for your community. Get links for each and every page, its often seen that in the case of forums the most odd posts gets the traffic lot.
Links must be build in the entire site but mainly we should focus on root directory.
Forum link building is a great way to increase website traffic, improve search engine rankings, and build relationships with potential customers.
Find forums that are related to your niche or industry. These should have active discussions and a good reputation.
