Why is it so hard to get sales from social networking sites?

Because social networking sites may give you a great exposure. But still they are a public place. And public places provide anonymous traffic mostly.

I couldn't agree more. We lost money too a couple of years back trying to get sales from social networking sites.

It is because social networking sites are for communication, socialism, and establishing one's reputation not for sale purposes.
