What are the basic points that a content marketer should always remember about SEO?
I am glad that you brought it up. Creating valuable content is important but only doing that is not enough. Content Marketers often forget some facts that they should always remember about SEO while marketing their content. Such as adjusting the alt text of images, page title is a main element but along with it meta description is also very important, choosing the correct tags for any page, correcting all the technical factors such as deleting any duplicate pages or using redirects & canonical tags, publishing content at a regular interval of time is also important etc.

I completely agree with you. Basic on-page factors are always an important think to remember. But creating and publishing well build & optimized content isn't enough. You will also have to promote it through right channels or hire someone to do it for you. Often good content just disappears just lacking good outreach.
The most important point that content marketers should remember is to write according to the needs and expectations of the target users.
I think you should start a blog purely from a content marketing perspective linked to your/brand/product/business. Use this blog to bring your prospects and customers value laden information without shoving who you are down their throat. This is content marketing, NOT straight-up-old-school-marketing where you just hammer away at why you guys are the 'best' and people should give you their money.
