Does Reciprocal Links still helps SEO?
Yeah they can as long as you don't get caught. :?
Google recently said that reciprocal links do cancel each other out of any benefit which gives us a dilemma for when we want to link to a website as a case study on our own website. Normally we use nofollow on the link but is that enough? I'd rather have the inbound link benefit than provide a link to the website!

Reciprocal links resemble link trading between two mutual websites. Hence they are not favored by Google and are looked down.
No, nowadays no value for reciprocal link
A reciprocal link is a mutual link between two websites. For example, if website A links to website B, then website B can add a reciprocal link back to website A. The result of a reciprocal link is two websites that link to each-each other.
Reciprocal links are typically created for one of two purposes:
1) To establish a partnership between two websites
2) To boost search engine ranking.
In the field of search engine optimization, link building describes actions aimed at increasing the number and quality of inbound links to a web page with the goal of increasing the search engine rankings of that page or website.
