I hear this thing a lot that people do content marketing in forums. And they drive tons of targeted traffic from them. Are there any tricks or procedure?
First of all. Let me correct you that's called 'Forum Marketing'.

And the most basic way to get traffic from forums are:
- Post only to those threads which you think you can add value to the community.
- Never put your own url in the post section. You can only put your own url in your profile signature.
- Make your posts to the point. No unnecessary talks or explanations are needed as they are not blog posts.
- Try to actually help people through comments and not just advertise your profile or increase to your post count.
- If you start any thread then make it relevant and interesting. And not some absurd or meaningless discussion just to gain exposure.
- Make your own threads as much as unique as you can.
- Respect other members and admit if had you made any mistakes.
- Forum communities are for exchanging information. So respect that every single time you post.

Once you have build your reputation as a good member in the forum. You will see that traffics will start to drive to your site easily.
Share information that actually helps users in the forum & not gain to just exposure. It may take some time to build your reputation but its totally worth it.
You need to participate in a thread that you are familiar about, if you are lucky enough some forums allows you to leave a signature with you will use to promote your website. This will drive traffic to your website but you need to be careful or else you will be tag as spam or be banned.
