Our web developer is sternly pushing that we should move our mobile site to HTML5. I don't know its a quite a steep update for us. What do you think about it?

Well certainly it doesn't have any disadvantages except then benefits.
And your web developer is pushing it so let him worry about the code. Switching to HTML5 will add more features and also its much simpler.

Stop thinking and move to HTML 5 already. You will amazed what it has to offer compared to its predecessors.

HTML 5 is far better because not of features but for its simplicity.
