Build content around or for them and publish. There is no strategy here. Yeah, obviously you can get links to outrank your competitors but linking to any page of yours without any relevancy will get you penalized, so be careful while doing it.

Firstly search an keyword with low competition but higher volume.
Create an Article on it .
Article should be handcrafted, duplicate article even from yoir site would be detected as duplicate content.
Create quantity Content.
Create Quality Backlinks by Guest Blogging and Creating Page on Wikipedia
