Try to build as much as unique content in you blog. Do good on-page optimizations such as keyword research and placing of keywords, o-page tags, header and meta descriptions etc.
In off-page region, I will say that try to get as much as links from high authority sites in your niche. Submit your content to social bookmarking site, they may be not directly effect your rankings but they are very good for outreach.
