Say I create a site which multi niched combines tech, food, travel and life style. Then can I rank for each of them?

You just have to build links from those niches and refer to them to the right pages.
And also you have to promote them separately whether its through forums, PPC or any other means.

I think benefits are obvious, easier to rank than completely new domains, easier to build authority, easier to turn your site into a powerful website which can be used to boost other websites, people can find several niches in your site and thus making you profit more.
So Multi Niche site = bad to rank at the start but better in long term.
