I am new to ad network world. In order to increase my brand visibility and build good awareness which ad network should I choose I have a monthly budget of $500? Should I go for Adwords or Fb sponsored ads?

I will suggest you that go for neither one of them. Yeah it may sound odd to you. But these networks are good for getting conversion, sign ups, funneling your customers etc. They are not good for exposure purposes.
I am not saying that they will not work, Yeah ofcourse they can also work but they will cost a heck lot of fortune to you and your $500 monthly budget is not going to cover it.
My suggestion is to go solely for CPM networks. With $500 budget you can get ton of exposure if you do the ad campaign right. Choose Adversal its pretty good. I usually use it for low budget exposures they are my first choice.

Yeah, CPM networks in this case can really come handy in low budget.
And also create facebook page for your brand. And start promoting it. You can also use Facebook sponsored ads. Don't try to redirect the traffic to your brand page at the fisrt attempt. Just try promoting the fb page yours. Traffic will come once you have enough exposure.
