Now directory submission as compare to backlinks have taken on low priority. To improve rankings when a new Penguin update is released, sites that have taken action to remove bad links.

I wouldn't dare to say that directory submission is dead. Yes it is not as much effective as it was years ago but still few niche relevant directories can get you quality backlinks and decent traffic some times.

Directory submissions is only used for back link not for keywords ranking.

Directory submission has nothing to do with SEO and this is an old way of method in which has low effect on your conversion compared to paid ads in Google.
